A group of Croydon joggers are cleaning up the borough, one 5km run at a time.

The group at GoodGym Croydon combines its love of exercise with a desire to see the borough as clean as possible.

Because of this, the group regularly goes on runs around the area, stopping at some of the more littered places along the way.

One member of the group, Rachel House, said it was the difference in the running group that sparked her interest.

“I didn’t want to join a regular club who take it too seriously,” she said.

“I also get to help out in the community.”

And help they do.

“The Croydon group meets every Tuesday to go for our big run, somewhere between 2 and 5km,” Ms House said.

“Then at the end, we stop of at a location in the borough that needs something done, be it painting, cleaning up rubbish, all of that.”

It’s not just a weekday activity either.

On the weekend, a few of the group members even do a bit of gardening.

“It’s a slightly smaller group of us on the weekend, but we like to go to an elderly person’s house in the area who might need something done up for their house or even some help with their gardening and lend a hand,” Ms House said.

“It’s just a nice way of helping out.”
