It's not often you get to break a 34-year-old-record. But that's exactly what the relay team from Minster Junior School did last week.

Runners Raphael Brooks, Andre Gray, Michael Ferguson, Emmanuel Ngoy, Henry Thomas not only broke Elmwood's previous record for the 4x100m relay of 55.5 seconds in the heats round, they broke their own mark in the semi-finals.

The new Croydon Primary School Athletics Championships record of 54.98 seconds had the team very excited.

"I broke last year's year 5 sprint record and I can't believe I will be in the record books in another event. It's a dream come true," Henry Thomas said.

Head coach Gareth Davies was equally ecstatic.

"I've never known such a talented group of boys," he said.

"We work very hard at all sports in this school and have had an extremely successful year."

The boys athletics team also were the overall winners.
