A Sutton Street Pastor who went out on the streets to help people in the early hours has passed away yesterday aged 89.

Pat Fletcher, resided in Worcester Park.

On Friday and Saturday nights Sutton Street Pastors support people out for the night to make sure everyone is enjoying themselves safely.

Despite her age Pat would go out once a month on Friday and Saturday night until the early hours.

Pat will be remembered as one of Sutton’s most loyal volunteers.

In 2012 she was presented with a Sutton Council Community Award for maintaining the borough’s safety.

Mark Tomlinson, head of the Sutton Street Pastors, said: "She was affectionately known and loved by both young and old.

“Often young people would run up to her and would ask 'was she safe?' as their own grandmums were in bed at 3am on a Saturday. Pat loved being on the streets and being a mum, grandmum and great grandmum. Pat will be missed by her family, friends, street pastors, and the community she served."

Executive Head for Sutton Council’s Safer and Stronger Communities Warren Shadbolt said: "Pat was a valued member of the Street Pastors team who give up their free time to provide help, guidance and reassurance to people visiting the town centre in the evenings and late at night.

“The council honoured her very significant contribution through a community award, recognising her continued commitment into later life. Our thoughts and sympathies are with family, friends and colleagues at this sad time."

Safer Neighbourhoods Inspector Kathy Morteo commented: "It is with great sadness that we hear of Pat's death. Our Street Pastors are highly valued members of our team, supporting our officers and providing help and assistance to the Town Centre community.

“We thank Pat for the enormous contribution she made to her local Community and offer our thoughts and condolences to her colleagues, friends and family.”
