Kingston Council will no longer collect extra rubbish left outside a single non-recycling bin, after July 3.

People with additional waste bins from the council are asked to leave them at the front of their property on the next collection day after June 18 for removal.

The scheme is aimed to boost recycling in the borough, encouraging residents to send as little to landfill as possible.

Last year, Kingston recycled 45.8 per cent of all household waste.

Sending materials for recycling or composting is better for the environment than landfill, and saves money.

Anyone who is struggling to put all their waste in one bin is asked to contact the council, which is ‘aware that there are a few instances where extra capacity is needed and [they] will assess this on a case-by-case basis’.
