The oldest primary school in SW20 is celebrating its 150 year anniversary.

St Matthew's primary school, formerly Cottenham Park primary school is holding a number of events including a gala evening on July 7 for former pupils and teachers, as well as parents.

The Church of England school was founded in 1867 by the vicar of St Mary's in Wimbledon, to reduce the journey that west Wimbledon children had to make to the Central National School on Camp Road.

Mr Quinn the Head teacher said "We are very proud to be the oldest Primary school in SW20 and look forward to celebrating with our school and the community.

"We are looking forward to the Bishop of Southwark and the Bishop of Kingston visiting our school this year and other local dignitaries.

"The staff, children and I are holding a week-long celebration from July 3 when the children will be learning about the old school on Pepys Road and the journey the school has taken to the present-day St Matthew’s School on Cottenham Park Road."
