Growing concerns from residents about parking availability in Strawberry Hill is prompting possible new developments.

The introduction of a new controlled parking zone in the area and around St Mary’s University Campus could be implemented later this year.

Student parking, daytime commuting traffic and non-residential parking is causing a lack of parking availability for local residents who have also raised concern about the impact of nearby developments.

Cllr Peter Buckwell, Richmond Council Cabinet Member for Highways, said: ”There are different underlying reasons in every area that can put pressure on parking.

“At the moment there are discussions with the community regarding the future of St Mary’s University and the development of a Supplementary Planning Document for the wider area. This work all fits together.”

The council have launched a consultation to find out if they have more than 50 per cent support from residents to implement the CPZ.

“This consultation will enable us to understand the views from all residents who live in the impacted ‘zone’,” Cllr Buckwell added.

“We know that residents are concerned that if there were additional students or development in the area, this could create further parking issues.

“Therefore, your views are vital to shaping the Council's final decision and it is important that as many people as possible have their say.”

Roads that are being considered as part of this process include; Waldegrave Road, Waldegrave Park, Strawberry Vale, Wellesley Road, Spencer Road, Popes Avenue, Strawberry Hill Road, and adjacent roads together with a number of roads in the neighbouring Fulwell and Teddington areas.

Residents in surrounding areas occupied by CPZs are also being contacted to find out if the current schemes need updating such as altering the operational hours.
