After the devastating fire in Grenfell Tower, Kensington, on Wednesday, Kingston Council is trying to reassure residents in the borough’s towers.
A letter was sent to people living in Childerley, Madingley, Graveley and Brinkley in the Cambridge Road estate, with information about fire safety work they are carrying out as well as advice for keeping the blocks safe.
The Grenfell Tower fire could have particularly affected those living in the area because of the fire in Madingley in 2010 that left 100 people homeless.
Chair of the Cambridge Road Estate Residents Association Harry Hall said: “There are a lot of residents who have been reminded about that time. We have asked the council to reassure residents and they have sent letters.
“Some of them are fearful, but we have taken steps to reassure them that they are safe.”
The letter states £1 million of improvements have been made to the blocks in the last few years to improve fire safety, and annual fire risk assessments are carried out by specialists.
Council leader Kevin Davis said on Twitter the council has arranged another inspection ‘just to be sure’.
There are annual fire inspections on the CRE towers but we have arranged another inspection now, just to be sure.
