Tesco is urging Wimbledon charities and community groups to use a new app that reduces food wastage.

The supermarket's Community Food Connection initiative offers surplus food to organisations for free.

Using the app FareShare Food Cloud, charities and groups can receive alerts from store teams to alert them to surplus unsold food at the end of every day.

Since launching in February 2016, the initiative has provided more than seven million meals to over 4,200 charities and community groups.

In London, 212,620 meals have been donated.

Tesco has pledged to be food waste-free by the end of 2017.

Groups that benefit include homeless shelters, substance abuse rehabilitation services, after-school clubs, foodbanks and domestic violence refuges.
