A quad bike driver has been jailed for three years after he crashed into an elderly man, resulting in him needing his leg amputated.

Martin Tofte, 25, of Culvers Way in Carshalton, pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving a motor vehicle dangerously.

The horrific crash occurred on London Road in Hackbridge on September 15 last year.

Tofte had been driving a quad bike dangerously earlier than evening in a supermarket car park in North Cheam before the crash.

At 11:15pm, as Tofte was driving on London Road between Hackbridge and Wallington, he hit the 65-year-old man.

The elderly man was critically injured and had to have part of his leg amputated.

Tofte pleaded guilty to the two counts at Croydon Crown Court and on June 14 was jailed for three years.

He was also disqualified from driving for five years and given a criminal behaviour order with conditions that he must not ride or be a passenger on any quad bike or two wheeled motor propelled vehicle for five years.
