Merton's peregrine falcon chicks are preparing to fly the nest.

Falcons have been rearing their young on the roof of Merton Council's civic centre, in Morden, for the past two years. This year's chicks are now testing out their wings.

The female normally lays three or four eggs in late March or April, which hatch about a month later. The chicks fledge at 38–44 days old.

The adults then spend two months or more teaching the young to hunt before they become independent.

This year, the council set up a live webcam for people to follow this year's chicks progress. The birds are a protected species.

While the chicks are learning to fly, they are at risk of becoming stranded on the ground.

The council are asking for people to be vigilant and report any strays to the London Peregrine Partnership on 07807738699 or the Merton Wildlife Police Officer on 0208 721 2455.

Merton Council came under fire for broadcasting the footage after a decision to stop filming council meetings was made in February last year.
