Firefighters rescued a woman from a burning flat in Battersea last week.

The woman was found in the kitchen suffering smoke inhalation. She was taken to hospital by London Ambulance.

Crews used a turntable ladder to save her from the seventh floor flat in Ingrave Street on May 27.

When the woman noticed the fire she shouted, alerting others- there was no working battery in the smoke alarm.

London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Homes need multiple and linked smoke alarms or you won’t be properly covered.

“Ideal spots for smoke alarms include rooms where you leave electrical equipment running like satellite boxes, computers or heaters; any room where you smoke, and anywhere you charge your mobile or laptop.

“As a minimum you should have smoke alarms on every floor - in the hallways and the rooms you use the most, plus a heat alarm in the kitchen. They should be linked together and tested regularly.”

Part of the flat was damaged by the fire, the cause of which is under investigation.

Around 50 people had evacuated the block before London Fire Brigade arrived.
