A School will speak out funding cuts to primary and secondaries in the borough at a protest picnic in Barnes tomorrow afternoon.

Children have been busy drawing posters and banners to support Barnes Primary School's Fair Funding For All Schools protest picnic at Vine Park from 2.45pm tomorrow (Friday, May 26).

Headmaster, Mark Hartley said: “Our aim is to offer pupils an outstanding educational experience through the offer of a broad, wide-ranging, exciting curriculum.

“We would hate to be placed in a position where we have no choice but to reduce what we offer to our children. At this time our ambitious mission statement is in danger of being compromised by the significant financial constraints we face.”

Fair Funding for All is a network of parents from some of the least and most funded schools in England that are aiming to raise awareness about the funding situation facing state schools across the country.

Mr Hartley added: “We support all the efforts made by our enormously supportive parents to raise additional revenue streams.

“We also support any protest that is made about the fact that our budget has shrunk at a time when costs are rising.”

Liberal Democrat candidate for Richmond Park Sarah Olney is expected to attend. She said: “Parents, teachers and governors across Richmond and Kingston are really concerned about the Government's devastating cuts to schools - cuts which are forcing schools to reduce staff levels, shrink the curriculum or cut back on extra-curricular activities.

"Since I was elected in December I have been supporting residents and campaigners, have worked with headteachers and have taken the fight to Theresa May at Prime Minister's Question Time.

“I will continue to work with parents - including those at Barnes Primary School - to oppose these cuts and to make sure that all our schools are provided with the funding they need to provide the education our children deserve."
