Primary school children will be able to relax in a sanctuary of plants and flowers after receiving a £1,000 donation toward a quiet area.

Epsom Primary and Nursery School raised the funds over 10 days this month using a fundraising platform which matches people looking for funds with companies that want to support them.

Home delivery florist Bloom & Wild offered to support them fill the quiet area with flowers, while sponsors donated £1,000 in funds.

Denice Reynolds, higher level teaching assistant and quiet area project lead at the school in Hook Road, said: “A quiet area will provide a sanctuary of calm, with eye-catching plants and flowers, comfortable seating and sensory resources for our children’s well-being.

“Providing a safe, comfortable and visually-appealing quiet area in the playground means our children have access to a space where they can be calm, order their thoughts, reflect on friendships and their learning or just be themselves.”

The Ralloo platform works by fundraisers garnering publicity for the company wanting to support them, and then being rewarded with funds proportionate to how much publicity they create.

Catherine Grinyer, chair of the school’s PTA, said: “I am so delighted that the school was willing to take part in this ground breaking campaign and that our community stepped up to take part.

“They have rewarded our children with the funds to create something really special.”
