A Putney councillor and former police inspector has been chosen to serve as the Mayor of Wandsworth.
Councillor Jim Maddan, who represents Thamesfield ward, has served as a councillor in Wandsworth since 2002. Cllr Maddan also served as mayor of the borough between 2006 and 2007.
He said: “It is an honour and a privilege to once again serve as mayor of this Brighter Borough and I look forward to meeting many more of its residents and businesses throughout my year in office.
“Wandsworth is a wonderfully diverse and interesting place to live and work and there are so many unsung heroes who do so much for our community and make it the special place it is.
“My aim over the next 12 months will be to honour and salute their achievements and shine a spotlight on their amazing efforts.”
The recently elected mayor served as a police officer for 30 years, where he rose to inspector before retiring in 1999. He was the officer in charge of day-to-day policing in Putney and Roehampton from 1992 until his retirement seven years later.
Cllr Maddan was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honour List in 2015 in recognition of his services to policing and the community.
His chosen charity for his Mayoral year is the Wandsworth Community Safety Trust.
The outgoing mayor, Councillor Richard Field, was praised for his contribution to the borough.
