Rain may be on the way to the capital but the weekend doesn't have to be ruined.
Here are some excellent activities in Wandsworth for a rainy day.
Cinema
Our picks of what’s on offer- solid escapism from the miserable weather.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
The second outing in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, it’s got great reviews and has escaped the sequel curse, with some saying it even surpasses the original.
Alien: Covenant
If you’re a horror fan this is definitely one to check out, although not a match for the original in uniqueness, a solid effort and the visuals pack a punch.
Colossal
This sci-fi thriller is set to deliver. Described as “genre-defying”, “strange” and “disorientating”- but well worth the ride.
Lady Macbeth
Based on an alternative narrative by Russian author Nikolai Leskov, it has blown critics away. A must.
For times and a full list of films check out Cineworld and Clapham Picturehouse.
Four Thieves
Four Thieves has lots of fun for a rainy day. Do you fancy a giant racing game, crazy golf, a bottomless brunch, or an immersive game in which you “solve the sordid secrets of Lady Chastity’s vineyard”? Well, you can do it all at this venue. And you can do it indoors.
Celebrate the arts in Wandsworth
Wandsworth Fringe is wrapping up this weekend so here are two of our picks to check out.
Hazelfest, a mini-festival staged by re-use charity Wandsworth SCrapstore, offers demos and workshops on how to upcycle/recycle donated materials from green-minded companies.
The venue is the Hazelhurst Estate on Blackshaw Road, 12-4pm, and it’s all under the cover of tents. Joy!
Confirmed activities include:
- Junk self-portraits from Cool It Art,
- Milk bottle puppets from Ruth Moyler
- Upcycled weaving with Weavie Stevie,
- Community painting
- Dress-a-teddy with Catherine
- Putney and Wandsworth Brass Band
- Rangoli with Jayson Singh
- Dance or musical piece from Smallwood School
- Local history talk and walk from Summerstown182
- Storytelling from South London Storytelling
Another venue to check out is the Putney Arts Theatre where you can delight the Melody of Madness, an art exhibition by Louis Morel.
Louis Morel
Louis says: “I suffer from severe sensory processing problems.
“It hurts like hell to go to any new places or see any new people, so instead I go to new places and meet new people in my head and that's where my drawings come from.”
Or how about just curling up with a book, the British book awards have declared these the best books 2017 so far:
Debut- What belongs to You by Garth Greenwell
Fiction- The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry
Fiction - 'crime & thriller'- Dodgers by Bill Beverly
Non-Fiction - 'lifestyle'- Hello, is this planet Earth? By Tim Peake
Non-Fiction - 'narrative'- East West Street by Philippe Sands
Children's- The Girl of Ink & Stars by Kiran Millwood Hargrave
Flip out Wandsworth
This is London’s biggest trampoline park and it’s for all ages and it’s inside. Bounce on down if you have the energy.
