The development of Fairfield Halls is getting one step closer to completion as a contractor has been announced to take it through to the final stages.

Vinci Construction, will redesign the cultural centre, after winning a competitive tendering £30 million contract earlier this year.

The national building company, one of the largest in the UK, will build upon ten months of work, which has seen the halls have extensive structural changes - including detailed surveys, ground investigations, asbestos removal and the stripping of loose fixtures and fittings, such as flooring, ceilings and soft furnishings.

Vinci Construction UK has worked on several major developments in the borough, including Croydon’s tallest tower, Altitude 25, Fairfield Road and The Ashburton Learning Village, Shirley Road.

Executive director for the council’s place directorate, Shifa Mustafa said: “This is a really exciting time. We are delighted Brick by Brick has taken Vinci Construction UK on board to bring Fairfield Halls on the next stage of its journey through to completion of the refurbishment in 2018. Vinci has a strong track record in delivering projects of this magnitude and the skills to ensure that the end result is exceptional.”

Jason Griffiths, regional director, Vinci Construction UK, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be appointed on this prestige project at Fairfield Halls, Croydon, and look forward to delivering a first-class restoration project with the client and their wider team.”

Ms Mustafa added: “The timing has enabled us to ensure that the operator and refurbishment contractor are able to get together at the earliest opportunity to influence and strengthen aspects of the design.”

Work is expected to be completed by May 2018.
