Deliveroo, the on-demand food delivery service, is launching in Epsom today.

More than 15 restaurants including Blacks Burgers, Pizza Express, El Patio, ASK Italian, Bamboo Basket, The Green Life and Chicken & Banter have signed up to the service so far.

The company aims to create work for more than 50 riders in Epsom during its first year of operation in the borough, a spokesman stated.

Customers can order food through the app between midday and 11pm from more than 20,000 restaurants nationwide.

Caroline Hazlehurst, General Manager at Deliveroo, said: “We’re extremely excited to be launching in Epsom and we’re looking forward to bringing some of the town’s delicious dishes straight from the hands of local chefs to customers’ doors.

“Our new riders in Epsom are now kitted out in their new hyper-reflective kit and locals can order from the fantastic variety of restaurants in Epsom, whatever they want, whenever they want, all from the comfort of their own home, office desk or wherever else hunger strikes.

“We already have a number of great partners across the town and we are excited to expand and widen the variety of restaurants on offer to our customers in Epsom over the course of the next year.”

Earlier this month, Deliveroo bowed to government pressure and announced a new agreement with riders, removing a clause stipulating they cannot take claims to an employment tribunal.

MPs on the Commons’ work and pensions select committee had demanded changes to the agreement, and unions had been campaigning for better employment rights in the gig economy prior to the announcement.
