Wandsworth’s oldest resident has turned 108.
Damaris Bryant, who has lived through two world wars, celebrated her birthday with friends and carers at her home in Battersea and had a visit from the mayor of the borough.
Born on May 12, 1909, Miss Bryant moved to the UK in the 1950s to work as a nurse. She settled in Wandsworth where she has lived ever since.
Along with being an NHS worker for many years, Miss Bryant later volunteered for a local charity.
Battersea has been her home since the 1980s where she has “formed close friendships in the local community”. She loves the soaps, especially Emmerdale and EastEnders.
Miss Bryant has received eight birthday cards from the queen, one for every year since she turned 100. She was “thrilled” to add another to her collection being a huge fan of the Royal Family.
The mayor of Wandsworth, Councillor Richard Field, said: “It’s an absolute honour to meet Miss Bryant, who has lived in the borough for over 50 years.
“Reaching the age of 108 is an amazing achievement. I am delighted to present Miss Bryant with the Mayor’s pin and put her name on the Roll of Honour.
“I wish her a very happy birthday.”
