Epsom and Ewell’s General Election candidates will face off in a Question Time-style debate in a church before the constituency - and the country - goes to the polls next month.

A panel of Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrat and Green candidates will face questions from the audience in St Paul’s Howell Hill in East Ewell on the NHS, education, business, foreign policy, defence, Brexit, and many more topics.

Transport secretary Chris Grayling MP, train driver and Labour candidate Ed Mayne, Green candidate Janice Baker and the Lib Dems’ Steve Gee will all take part in the debate on May 24.

The debate will be chaired by Nick Spencer, a research director at religion and society think thank Theos. It will involve plenty of audience participation and will follow a Question Time-style format, St Paul’s Curate the Reverend David Senior told the Epsom Guardian.

Epsom and Ewell MP Chris Grayling was re-elected in 2015 with 58.3 per cent of the vote (33,309), comfortably beating six other candidates, and securing a majority of 24,443 votes.

The United Kingdom goes to the polls in the 2017 General Election on Thursday, June 8. Voting takes place between 7am and 10pm.
