A pub in Colliers Wood is giving Macmillan nurses a free meal every Sunday throughout May.

Kiss Me Hardy pub in Priory retail park is extending the invitation to Macmillan Cancer Charity nurses and professionals as part of a month-long “Macmillan May” fundraising drive.

At the start of the month, Prime Minister Theresa May was challenged during a television apperarance over Royal College of Nursing figures showing some nurses have had a 14 per cent pay cut since 2010 and are resorting to food banks to eat.

The PM said that there are many complex reasons why people go to food banks.

Hesham Badra, general manager at the Kiss Me Hardy, said: “Macmillan nurses work tirelessly to support people with cancer, and their care makes such a difference in the local community.

“May is a key month for nurses, both in the UK and internationally, so we decided to mark our Macmillan May fundraising drive and celebrate their hard work.

“We’re proud to support Macmillan and want to reward them, so we hope they take up our offer to enjoy one our Pub Faves dishes on us every Sunday throughout May!”

The month of May also celebrates International Nurses’ Day which is held on Florence Nightingale’s birthday, May 12.

Rachel Gascoigne, partnership manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “Our nurses and other professionals work hard to help people affected by cancer, not just with medical support, but also providing much needed emotional and practical support, so it’s wonderful to see their work recognised on International Nurses’ Day.

“We want to thank the Kiss Me Hardy and everyone at Greene King for their generosity in helping to show our professionals how much their work is appreciated throughout Macmillan May - a month long fundraiser, which will see Greene King pubs across the country coming together to support the charity.

"This is a truly lovely gesture and a brilliant way to kick off our sixth year as Greene King’s national charity partner.”

Greene King owns the Hungry Horse pub chain and has raised over £2.9m through a partnership with Macmillan since 2012.

Macmillan nurses and professionals will need to present identification when ordering a meal from the"Pub Faves" menu.
