Ambulances were turned away from Croydon University hospital yesterday (May 1), after a power failure.
Emergency generators kept services running, a CUH spokesman said.
He added: "Last night we had a power failure which affected parts of the hospital. All patients have been kept safe and all services have returned to normal.
“In line with our tried and tested plans, we used emergency generators to keep services running. Some services such as x-rays and CT scanners took longer to return to power. As a precaution and to reduce demand, neighbouring hospitals St George’s and St Helier allowed us to divert ambulances to them.
“Hospital staff have been fantastic throughout this situation and our contingency plans worked well. We are very proud of how our staff responded and for the understanding from our patients.”
