Funding has been confirmed for a new medical centre at Battersea Power Station.
Nearly £13 million will be allocated to the facility, which will have the capacity to accommodate up to 20 rooms for consultation, examination, treatment and dental procedures.
The centre, which will be located on the southern part of the power station, is being funded from a combination of Development Infrastructure Funds and Community Infrastructure Levy payments, which developers are required to make to both Wandsworth and Lambeth councils.
Leader of Wandsworth Council Ravi Govindia said the move showed the “wider benefits” of the redevelopment and parliamentary candidate for Battersea Jane Ellison called it a “really important milestone”.
The decision was made at a meeting of the Nine Elms Vauxhall Strategy Board and it is hoped construction will begin next year.
Rob Tincknell, CEO of Battersea Power Station Development Company, said: “The new medical centre we are creating is an essential part of the social infrastructure being built as a result of the regeneration taking place at Battersea Power Station, and with the tube line already underway we hope to start on the medical centre and affordable homes in the coming year.”
