Tooting MP Rosena Allin-Khan has responded to Theresa May’s plans to call a snap general election: "Bring it on."

In response to the unexpected announcement from the UK Prime Minister a spokesperson for the Tooting born MP said: "Tooting Labour is ready, we were born ready. Bring it on."

Theresa May has just announced she wants to call a general election on June 8.

She has challenged opposition parties to provide an alternative to the Government’s plans for Brexit.

Mrs May said it was "with reluctance" she made the decision but that "the country is coming together but Westminster is not".

She said: "I have concluded the only way to guarantee certainty and security for years ahead is to hold this election."

She accused other political parties of "game playing", saying this risks "our ability to make a success of Brexit and it will cause damaging uncertainty and instability to the country".

The House of Commons will vote for a general election tomorrow (April 19).
