Tooting residents can enjoy another green space this summer as Fishponds playing field will be open to public.

The council decided to open the area to the public, which is normally only accessible to sports clubs with a pitch booking, for a trial period following requests from residents.

Locals can avail of the space from Monday, April 24 to September 3 whenever there is a pitch booking and a member of staff is on site.

Times will be published here.

The council’s environment spokesman Cllr Jonathan Cook said: “This green space could provide an important local amenity for people living nearby.

“We are very lucky to have so many parks, commons and open spaces in Wandsworth and its great they are used and enjoyed by so many local people.

“If we can add to that number by opening up these playing fields over the summer months then that will be great news for people living in this part of Tooting.

“We do however need to make sure that those living very close to the playing fields are not subject to any level of anti-social behaviour, which is why we’re conducting this pilot scheme to see how well it works.”
