A Good Samaritan has helped a disabled man stranded outside a Poundland because staff will not lend him a pump after the one he bought did not work.

Charleston Aslet bought a pump from the store in New Malden High Street this morning to blow up a deflated tyre, but it did not work.

Unable to get back to his home in Burlington Road – about a three-minute walk, or 20-minute wheel away - he was forced to drag himself back inside Poundland, and turn a trolley upside down sit on as he tried other pumps.

A member of staff at the discount chain told the Surrey Comet Mr Aslet was "rude" and that customer service rules prevented her from bringing items to him outside the store.

But now a Good Samaritan - known only to the Surrey Comet as 'Derek' - has now offered him a lift to Halfords in Beverley Way where he can get his tyre fixed. Surbiton Tyre and Wheel had also offered to send help if necessary, after reading the Surrey Comet's story.

Mr Aslet told the Surrey Comet: “I have told them I’m sat out the front by the bench, ‘Can you bring out a pump to help me out?’

“But they just say they can’t do that.”

After dragging himself into the store to try new pumps, he said: “I’m basically stuck here. It's totally out of order.

“They have no humanity.”

He has since been 'rescued' and thanked a 'Good Samaritan who helped him. Mr Aslet said: "It was embarassing. I was sat on the floor, looking completely incapacitated.

"But a Good Samaritan has put my faith in humanity back somewhat."

The Poundland worker said: “We are not allowed to bring anything out of the store to the customer.”

Are you in the area? Can you help Mr Aslet?
