A unity protest will be held this week in Croydon, in support of the Kurdish-Iranian asylum seeker who was beaten in an ‘unprovoked attack’.

Local associations and residents will gather together in North End central Croydon, at noon on Saturday April 8, as a sign of solidarity.

The 17 year old Reker Ahmed, was chased by thirty people, in Shrublands Avenue, Shirley, on Friday March 31.

He is currently recovering in a south London hospital, his injuries include a bleed on the brain, a fractured skull and a broken eye socket.

The event, organised by Stand Up to Racism, aims to demonstrate that refugees and migrants are welcome in Croydon.

A statement on the Stand up to Racism Facebook page read: “Racist attacks won't go unopposed, we won't be divided.

"Join us to send the message loud and clear.”

A total of 16 people so far, have been charged in relation to the ‘alleged hate-crime’.

The protest starts at 12pm, on Saturday (March 8)
