A murder investigation has been launched after a man who was stabbed in Thornton Heath last week died in hospital.

Bjorn Brown, 23, died in the early hours of yesterday morning (Monday, April 3), police confirmed.

Officers were called to reports of a man bleeding heavily after being stabbed in Bensham Lane, near to the junction with Lodge Road, at 8.30pm on Wednesday, March 29.

Detectives now believe the attack happened in Kelling Gardens at the junction with Bensham Lane, and that the victim had cycled away from the scene of the crime, but collapsed.

A member of the public driving past came to his aid and tried to take Mr Brown, of South Norwood, to hospital. The driver then flagged down an ambulance, and paramedics took the victim to a south London hospital.

From yesterday: Seven more arrests after teenage asylum seeker attacked in 'hate crime' in Shrubland Avenue

Chief Superintendent Jeff Boothe, Borough commander for Croydon, said: "I am saddened to hear that our borough has suffered another tragic incident with the death of a young man stabbed in Thornton Heath last week, and my thoughts are with his family.

"This is another violent incident impacting on our communities, so close to the recent attack in Shrublands, but there is nothing to link the two events.

"I am continuing to work to keep officers visible in the affected communities, and ask that anyone concerned with recent events to talk to officers. It is only together that we can tackle those who seek to be involved in violent offending."
