A crowdfunding page for an asylum seeker that was attacked in Croydon has now raised over fifty thousand pounds.

The page, which was set up on Saturday, (April 1) by Bridey Watson from Bristol, has exceeded its original target of £3,500 after kind-hearted donations were made from the public.

The page started in support of the victim, who is currently fighting for his life in a south London hospital after sustaining injuries including a blood clot on his brain and fractured skull.

Bridey, 35 said: “I knew the power of a crowd funding page, after I heard about the attack I thought I cannot stand by, we have to do something to know that he is welcomed and loved.”

The 17 year old male, was attacked by 20 people. 16 people have been charged , so far.

She added: “We are very much of the opinion that it is his money and we here to facilitate people giving him what they can. We are setting up a service to let him know that he is cared for without jeopardising his asylum claim. We hope that when comes out of this it will be his choice if he accepts the money to rebuild his life.”

A statement on the crowdfunding page reads: “We want to help him overcome this horrible ordeal and show that he is loved and welcome here in the United Kingdom. Your small act of kindness will undoubtedly make a big difference to his life at this critical time. Anything you can give will be greatly appreciated.”
