Work has started on the Belvedere Beach Playground on the former site of the splash park.

Parts of the site in Woolwich Road will be restricted from this week and visitors should take care when using or crossing the park.

The park will close from April 18 while the new playground starts to take shape.

It will be open throughout the year and will offer a range of equipment, including sensory and educational play areas and an interactive water play area.

Councillor Peter Craske, cabinet member for community safety, environment and leisure, said: “It’s great to see work starting on this exciting new project for Belvedere.

"The new park will provide a year round play facility that will cater for all children.

"We took our time choosing this design and it promises to be something we won’t have seen before in the borough.”

The park should be open this summer.
