A young man accused of putting a suspicious device on a Tube train at North Greenwich station has denied having an explosive.
Damon Smith, 20, appeared at the Old Bailey before Judge Nicholas Hilliard QC.
He spoke to confirm his name and enter a not guilty plea via video link from Belmarsh jail.
He is charged with possession of an explosive substance in intent contrary to the Explosive Substances Act 1883.
According to the details, between October 18 and 21 2016 he "unlawfully and maliciously made or had in his possession or under his control an explosive substance with intent... to endanger life or cause serious injury to property in the UK".
Smith, of Abbeyfield Road in Southwark faces a two-week trial on April 24.
Metropolitan Police officers allegedly discovered the device after two members of the public found a backpack on a Jubilee line service on October 20 last year.
It was handed to the driver, who inspected the backpack, prompting the evacuation of North Greenwich Underground station.
A controlled explosion was carried out on the device.
