The RSPCA has launched an investigation following the fatal stabbing of a dog.

Chaos, who was eight-years-old when he died, received two stab wounds from a gang of six to eight youths when he went up to sniff them on a walk with his owner.

His owner had been taking him on a walk along an alleyway on Havelock Estate, near Swift Road at the time and immediately brought him to the RSPCA’s Putney Animal Hospital but it was too late.

A spokesperson for the charity said: “The owner flagged down a passing member of the public, who kindly rushed him and Chaos to the RSPCA’s Putney Animal Hospital, but very sadly the dog died in transit.”

The weapon used was an illegal flick knife. Knife crime in London has risen by 16 per cent but animals are rarely the victim.

RSPCA Deputy Chief Inspector Broster said: “This sounds like a very disturbing incident and a completely senseless attack on a defenseless animal and we are extremely concerned.

“We urge anyone with any information at all to contact us, in strictest confidence, on 0300 123 8018.”

The incident happened at around 3pm on Thursday, March 2.
