Wandsworth Council is inviting residents have their say in a consultation on introducing byelaws to more than 30 green spaces in the borough.

The council is proposing to introduce byelaws to the 35 parks in Wandsworth not covered by any, which include five cemeteries.

The existing byelaws give the council the power to take action against “littering, dog fouling, flytipping, vandalism, rowdy behaviour, traveller occupations, moped riding and aggressive or dangerous cycling, plus many other forms of undesirable and unacceptable behaviour”.

Currently, the Greater London Council (GLC) and Wandsworth Council’s byelaws cover Battersea Park, Coronation Gardens, Southfields, Garratt Green, Furzedown Recreation Ground, Tooting Common, Garratt Park, Wandsworth Common, King George’s Park, Wandsworth Park, Leaders Gardens, Swaby Gardens and Tooting Gardens.

Environment spokesman Cllr Jonathan Cook said: “These proposals are designed to fill in the gap that exists between our biggest and smallest local parks.

“What we want to do is make sure that we are able to properly deal with problems of bad behaviour that damage our parks, causes distress and upset to those who want to enjoy them and in extreme cases, may even deter people from visiting them.

“Having adequate powers to tackle issues like flytipping, dog fouling and traveller invasions in each and every one of our parks and open spaces is in the interests of the wider law-abiding community and so I would urge residents who support these efforts to take part in this consultation.”

The consultation ends on March 31 so to have your say go to the council’s website
