Thousands of Sky broadband customers were left without web or phone access after a network outage across London.

One of the UK’s largest broadband providers, Sky attributed the failure on a break to fibres caused by roadworks on Tuesday afternoon (February 20).

Homes in Wandsworth, Balham, Battersea, Clapham, Tulse Hill, Tooting, Streatham and Brixton were hit from around 5pm.

Angry customers took to the internet to voice their complaints.

Sky apologised at 1.36am for the inconvenience caused and confirmed all was back up and running.

A Sky spokesperson said: "Ongoing roadworks taking place between Vauxhall and Bermondsey resulted in a physical break to fibres, causing broadband and phone outages for some customers.

"Unfortunately the initial incident was out with our control, but support teams worked closely with council teams to repair the broken fibres and get services back up and running by the early hours.

"We apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused."
