The Sutton Community Awards honoured individuals who have made a positive contribution to the borough at an annual prize-giving event.

Five eventual winners and several runners-up attended the awards ceremony at Holiday Inn in central Sutton on Thursday, February 23.

Among the winners was Krtin Nithiyanandam, who was given the outstanding achievement award for his contributions to science.

Aged just 16 he claimed to have found a way to make triple negative breast cancer, a subset of the disease that affects about 7,500 women every year, respond to traditional cancer drugs.

He said: "Thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way. My parents and all my teachers. I could not have done it without any of them."
