A ten-month-old baby was unhurt after a crash between a car and a lorry in Cheam, sent debris and fuel across the road.

The baby's mother was hurt after a 'direct hit' with a lorry, according to an eyewitness, but the baby was reportedly safe.

A woman was taken to a south London hospital, but her injuries are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening, a Metropolitan Police spokeswoman stated.

A Met Police spokesman confirmed that a ten-month-old baby was unhurt in the crash.

The force closed Cheam Common Road between Malden Road and Farm Road after the crash. The crash happened at the junction with Farm Road just before 3.10pm, according to Transport for London (TfL).

Buses have been diverted away from the area while emergency services ensure the safety of those involved clear the road.

Bus routes 213 and X26 are missing out Worcester Park, and diverting either via Lower Morden or Tolworth, TfL advised.

The London Ambulance Service (LAS) is in attendance. 

The LAS has been approached for a comment.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

No arrests have been made.
