A driver was killed in an early morning police chase in Kempton Park after his Audi crashed into a lorry.

A 37-year-old man died on the A316 southbound at Kempton Park at about 4.30am (February 8). His relatives have been informed.

The driver of the lorry was unharmed.

Police were chasing the car at the time. It is believed the driver failed to stop for them.

Both the Directorate of Professional Standards and the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) have been informed.

A section of Ham Common was taped off earlier today to allow police to collect forensic data in relation to the crash, which happened almost seven miles away by road.

Your Local Guardian:

It had previously been thought the appearance of police tape was related to electricity works.

A board adjacent to the tape reads: “Essential electricity works. Temporary traffic lights. Expect delays.”

The crash has caused travel chaos all day on the A316 and the M3.

The IPCC has appealed for witnesses to the crash to help its investigation.
