MP Paul Scully said he would ‘sizzle’ the President-Elect if their paths crossed.
The Sutton and Cheam MP had previously called on Britain to “roast” Mr Trump as the country is "pretty good at roasting beef", rather than ban him from entering the UK.
He made the remark during a three-hour debate following the President-Elect’s call to halt Muslims from entering the United States. MPs branded Mr Trump a ‘buffon’ and a ‘wazzock’ during the January debate.
The Republican will become the 45th President of the United State, replacing outgoing Democrat Barack Obama at his inauguration in Washington DC today (Friday, January 20).
Mr Scully said: “I don’t regret saying it. I think leaders should be open to being made fun of and to questions.
“Three million people in America saw that clip. I definitely don’t think I’ll get a visa to go to America.
“If our paths were to cross I would sizzle him rather than go for the full roast.
“But at the end of the day he has been elected and, even though he’s not my cup of tea, he needs to be given a chance.
“I’m not going to judge him on what he has said, but on what he achieves. I think it does present some opportunities, especially in regard to Brexit. He has a fondness for us and I think a deal can be done there.
“The biggest danger is foreign policy and that is an area that the UK can take a leadership role. There are some volatile places like the Middle East and Russia where we can be a calming influence.
“Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan had a close relationship, but she was able to soften the rougher edges of their policy and I think it’s the wrong time to have a spikey relationship with the leaders in those regions.”
