An elderly man hit by a car near the Spread Eagle junction in Epsom town centre has died in hospital.

The 94-year-old victim was taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting after being hit by a blue VW Golf outside the Metro Bank in Ashley Road at about 10.15am yesterday (Thursday, December 22).

He died in hospital in the early hours of today (Friday, December 23).

He was in a "serious condition" en route to hospital, according to a spokesman from the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

Surrey Police described the man as "local".
