Overheated microwave packaging sparked a fire in a flat a residential care home last night (Wednesday, December 11).
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to put out the fire in the flat at the Grange in Rectory Lane, Leatherhead.
Crews from Leatherhead, Epsom and Painshill fire stations were called at 8.25pm and had left by 11.30pm.
A spokesman from Leatherhead fire station said the packaging had been in the microwave “too long”, and after it was thrown into the bin, the fire started.
The spokesman added that no one was hurt during the fire, and that there was no need to cakll ambulance services.
He said: “It was just an accident.”
The Grange is a charity that offers residential care services and training to people with disabilities.
