Firefighters from across south London battled a blaze in Coulsdon last weekend.
Six fire engines were sent out to Leadenhall Estate after a boiler and third-floor balcony were seen on fire at about 6pm on Saturday, December 3.
About 20 people evacuated the building before firefighters arrived.
There were no reports that anyone had been injured.
Witness Sandra Ward said: “The fire appeared to be centred on the balcony of the affected flat where the gas boiler is situated and firemen quickly brought the blaze under control though it had spread to the flats above damaging balconies and filling rooms with smoke.
“This is the second time this year there has been a fire at Leadenhall Estate. In the summer solar panels on the roof caught fire.”
