Two football ‘fans’ from Mitcham and Battersea have been banned from attending football matches after being involved in violent scenes during the match between West Ham United and Chelsea last month.

Michael Parker, 27, was given a five-year Football Banning Order after being charged with throwing a missile during the match on Wednesday, October 26.

Nicholas Greenway, from Eversleigh Road, Battersea, was charged with threatening behaviour and banned for three years.

Parker, a Chelsea ‘fan’ from Alexandra Road, Mitcham, and Greenway, a 51-year-old West Ham fan, appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Friday, November 11.

Commander BJ Harrington, of the Met's Public Order Command, said: "Although the vast majority of people who attended the match were well behaved, there were a minority who were clearly intent on being involved in confrontation and violence.

"Despite extensive work with both clubs and the London Stadium partners as well as a large and robust policing operation, there were unacceptable incidents inside and outside the stadium, before, during and after the game.”

Violence erupted during last month’s game at West Ham’s new London Stadium – previously the Olympic Stadium – as fans clashed in the stands.

Ripped-up seats, bottles and coins were thrown between ‘fans’, leaving several people – including children – injured and bloodied.

About 200 people face banning orders following the violence.

The Hammers and Chelsea condemned the unsavoury scenes and pored over CCTV footage to identify the thugs involved.

In a joint statement released following the match, the clubs stated: "West Ham United and London Stadium are finalising the identification of 200 individuals who will receive stadium bans having been involved in incidents of disorder during West Ham's EFL cup victory over Chelsea.

"Banning notifications will be issued for offences ranging from the use of abusive and offensive language to missile throwing.

"In line with our zero tolerance policy, all those involved will receive a seasonal or lifetime ban depending on the severity of the offence."

Commander Harrington added: "We will continue to work with our partners to tackle crime and disorder at the London Stadium and the banning orders are a part of this work.

"The banning orders for these two men will prevent them from causing more trouble at football events in future. We are working tirelessly to identify people involved and bring them to justice.”

Witnesses to the disorder are encouraged to call 101 to offer information.
