An abandoned puppy was found with injuries so severe he may have to have an eye removed.
The young Pug, who was been named ‘Pumpkin’, was found in Wimbledon in a plastic pet cage which did not have a door, along with a note saying ‘Free Pug xxx’.
The note left with Pumpkin
Pumpkin was found dumped in a private garden in Durnsford Road on Thursday, October 20. He has what the RSPCA described as a ‘nasty gash’ above his right eye, which may need to be removed.
The RSPCA said it has been inundated with requests to rehome Pumpkin since its appeal went public, but will wait until his veterinary treatment has been completed, and for the puppy to get a little bit older, before they pick him a new home.
Pumpkin's eye may need to be removed because of the wound
Inspector Phil Norman said: "If anyone recognises this pug, or the note he came with, we would urge them to get in touch with us.
"The note indicates he has been dumped deliberately, so it may be that he was an unwanted pet and his owner didn’t realise the amount of work it takes to look after a puppy, or that they did not want to pay the cost of vet care.
"We’re hoping someone can help provide us with information about how he came to have the injury on his head too.
"This poor puppy has had a difficult start in life but is fortunately now getting the care and attention he needs."
