A NORBITON musician has beaten thousands of hopeful artists to be named amongst the UK’s top unsigned acts.

Singer-songwriter Joe Garvey, 27, has gigged at Kingston pubs such as the Grey Horse and Old Moot House for the past few years.

He has now been nominated in the best male and critic’s choice categories at the 2016 Unsigned Music Awards (UMAs).

Mr Garvey, of Chesham Road, said: “I’ve dedicated so much time to gigging and recording music – to be recognised for it is a huge honour.”

Launched in 2012, some 35,000 people have voted in the UMAs including celebrities such as rock star Frank Turner and international footballer Gareth Bale.

Previous winners at the awards include Molly Smitten-Downes, who went on to represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Content in 2014.
