A man who was hit by a quad bike in Hackbridge remains in a critical condition.

Last week the Sutton Guardian reported the 64-year-old man was fighting for life following the crash in London Road at 11.20pm on Thursday, September 15.

The crash happened close to temporary traffic lights near Hackbridge station, according to residents.

A spokesman from the Metropolitan Police today said: “In terms of the investigation the 64-year-old pedestrian remains in a critical, but stable condition.

“Enquiries are still ongoing and no arrests have been made at this time.”

The spokesman did not elaborate on what was meant by a "critical, but stable condition".

Last week residents in the area expressed concern about the number of accidents that have happened in the road, and called for speed cameras to be installed.

Catherine Haynes, of London Road, said: “My front room has been like a first aid room over the past few years. I’ve lived here for about 11 years and there have been some really bad accidents here.

“People come down the road too fast and you see people on their phones trying to overtake others down here and at night you hear motorcyclists revving up.

“It’s not uncommon to see cars going at 50mph on this 30mph road, the worst I saw was one going at 75mph.”
