Ewell has been named the second best commuter town less than an hour from London in a national poll.
The survey by the National Landlords Association named the village second only to Brighton as a settlement choice for London workers looking to move away from the city.
The historic little village beat Surrey settlements including Cobham, Virginia Water, Walton-on-Thames, Guildford and Lingfield, which all featured in the pollsters’ top 30.
Respondents to the National Landlords Association’s poll were impressed with Ewell’s “quick, reasonable commute and good local schools… good high street, nice pubs and restaurants, and park with a BMX course and running tracks”.
Ofsted-approved Mead Infant School, West Ewell Infant School, Wallace Fields Juniors, and Glyn School were also noted for their “outstanding” reports.
However, people were less keen on Ewell’s lack of nightlife, “very suburban” Thirties semi-detached houses and period homes towards the centre of the village.
