A Metropolitan Police spokesman this morning said officers were in the process of informing the dead man's next of kin.

Formal identification and a post examination are still to take place.

One woman, who did not wish to be named and lives in the block behind Shepard House, said: "There's been a lot of violence there.

"I've heard people yelling, banging on doors.

"Last month there was someone banging on a door shouting 'let me in, let me in,' lots of aggression.

"I don't feel safe around there."
