A man has appeared in court charged with murdering a Wimbledon man while they were inmates at the same prison.
King Jahzel Lewis, also known as Jahzeer Lewis, 24, has been charged with the murder of fellow inmate Madala Washington, who was fatally stabbed in Coldingley Prison.
Washington, 25, of Abbey Parade, was stabbed during lunchtime on Friday, April 1.
Despite the best efforts of police and London Air Ambulance to save his life, he was pronounced dead an hour later at the Category C resettlement jail in Bisley, Surrey. A post-mortem gave his cause of death as stab wounds.
Washington had been convicted of conspiracy to supply cocaine and heroin in 2013, after he was arrested during Metropolitan Police dawn raids against drug dealers.
Lewis, who has since been moved to High Down Prison in Sutton, appeared at Redhill Magistrates’ Court on Monday, July 25.
He is due to appear at Guildford Crown Court on Monday, August 1, so that a timetable for the trial can be set.
