The cause of a fire that left a derelict club house badly damaged is under investigation.
Sixty fire fighters and eight fire engines were called to the old BBC sports ground in Motspur Park, New Malden on Friday evening.
It took calls from New Malden, Wimbledon, Sutton, Surbiton, Kingston, Tooting and Croydon three hours to bring the flames under control.
The fire left the disused club house at the sports ground badly damaged and, at the height, of the blaze smoke could be seen across a wide area.
New Malden station manager Graeme Hunter, who was at the scene, said: “When they arrived firefighters were faced with a fire in a two storey, derelict sports clubhouse.
"The fire affected the building’s ground floor, first floor and roof and our crews worked hard in hot, challenging conditions to get it under control.”
Firefighters were called at 5.34pm and the fire was brought under control by 8.44pm.
