Tonight's commute home is bound to be a sticky one for many, the misery likely compounded for thousands of passengers by Southern Rail's sinkhole troubles.

Disruption through London Bridge was expected all through the day today as Southern and Thames Water try to fix the mess.

Staff at Chessington World of Adventures took extra measures to keep their animals cool.

Zoo supervisor Jamie Mainds said: "Whenever we have a rare British heatwave we always come up with creative ways to keep our animals cool and to provide them some fun new enrichment.

"This can range from putting out a paddling pool or sprinklers, to providing frozen treats which they can nibble away at and refresh themselves with."
