Chris Grayling has proposed Theresa May for the Conservative party leadership, it has been reported.

The Epsom and Ewell MP told the Epsom Guardian on Tuesday he had not yet decided who to back in the forthcoming race.

However this morning the Guardian reported Mr Grayling had proposed the home secretary for leader, which was seconded by Putney MP Justine Greening.

Mr Grayling campaigned for the Leave campaign, while Mrs May favoured Britain staying in the European Union.

Last week Mr Grayling signed Poole MP Robert Syms’ letter insisting Mr Cameron should stay on as Prime Minister regardless of the outcome of the referendum, along with 84 other of his colleagues.

Mr Grayling has been approached for comment.
